I'm still keeping my fingers crossed about Bearsuit relocating elsewhere. I'll keep you posted...

ATJ/CMJ Saturday show MOVED

Dear friends,

I've been busy, this you might know. Nevertheless, I am making time to wash my hair and put on some clean spittle-free clothes in order to celebrate CMJ with the After The Jump crew and - wait for it... wait for it... - BEARSUIT. Yes and yes and yes! How fantastic is that? It's safe to say Soft Communication exists largely because of this band (object of desire for our very first music post all those carefree years ago) and the fact that they are here in NYC makes me happier than I can possibly say. I won't be rehashing any of the many posts I've done on them before, simply do a search on the name Bearsuit to see some of my past frothing at the mouth rambling, I'll just say COME SEE THEM FAH REELZ. I will be standing up front with hearts in my eyes.

By the way, the show has been MOVED. This is an important detail. It is no longer at the Yards thanks to tomorrow's apparent deluge so the whole shebang is taking place at The Market Hotel in Bushwick instead. Many other delightful bands are playing but seriously BEARSUIT. Gawd.

Taking over the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Galapagos Art Space, and a substantial chunk of North 6th Street starting at noon on June 21st, ATJF is partnering with Make Music NY, Metromix, Stereofame and others (including over 40 bands) to support underfunded New York City school music programs.

After The Jump returns!

In a few short months, it will be Summer and that means the second annual After the Jump Fest! Bigger, better with even more acts and surprise guests, this year the festival takes place along side the city wide music event, Make Music New York (which itself is a part of the worldwide music phenomenon that takes place in 300 cities in 108 countries) on the first day of Summer, June 21st.

After the Jump Fest is the effort of 20 New York City music bloggers whose goal is to help new artists gain exposure while raising money for struggling school music programs. This year, After the Jump is teaming up with The Music Hall of Williamsburg and Galapagos Art Space for a festival stretching from noon until last call. In the next few months, After the Jump blogs will be making more announcements about the festival including new artists and pre-parties. Stay tuned and in the mean time, check out AftertheJumpFest.com for information on our past events and mark your calendars! It's going to be a doozy.

Dear friends,

I have long been in slow, warped, thick with haze infatuation for all things Pete Kember and Jason Pierce aka the songwriters behind Spacemen 3. This is why when I heard Kember aka Sonic Boom was playing as Spectrum at After The Jump, my head cocked to the side like the RCA dog and stayed that way. It's like that now.

Call The Doctor is the song you write when you are a little in love with death. The title request is uttered with a smile by a person who is slowly going under. They’re talking to you about how they can see death but they don't really care. They're trying to impart to you that their self-destruction is good thing really and it's too bad you, the listener, can't see that. The truth is you're probably not doing so hot yourself. So the question is, will you follow them down to oblivion or will you rise up to the surface, gasping for breath, and never look back?

I've been trying to put up two banners on the site for the past two days and I'm about to cry because I am entirely incapable of doing it correctly. Like, things are INVISIBLE. Where did they go? What on earth is JAVA? What is my name? SIGH. I wish I could say if they were actual, you know, real live cloth banners I'd do much better. I am clumsy and lacking in skillz. After The Jump this week!

Dear friends,

On Saturday, the 25th of August, at Studio B in Brooklyn, the first blogger-organized After The Jump Fest will be taking place. After the Jump will be an all-day event with a FREE day show (doors at 1pm, bands start at 2pm) and a night show to benefit a proposal submitted by the Bronx High School For the Visual Arts (via DonorsChoose.org) for equipment to be used by aspiring DJs, writers, MCs and beat-makers.
