the watusi...the twist...eldorado...
I just wrote an extended piece on my blog about my childhood memories of the Beatles' "Revolution 9." View here if you like.
great post mike! I recommend everyone take a look at it right now.
there's something so great about thinking about some kid stumbling across tomorrow never knows in their parent's record collection or hearing happiness is a warm gun in a used clothing store in saratoga (me) & being like what's THAT?!?! I suppose that's why as much as I enjoy the stones there's never been much of a contest.
But those are actual songs, you know? I think I heard "Tomorrow Never Knows" before R9, and it at least had drums and sung lyrics. Whereas R9 was completely unrecognizable; I could not have possibly known about the Stockhausen or Cage influences at age 11.
I wasn't actually alluding to that aspect of your post...I agree that 9 is...off-putting to say the least & a worthy song to fear. I was just thinking out loud (or writing out loud) how fresh other beatles songs can be to new ears. new ears? I've lost my mind, haven't I?
